Minister asks state govt to clear Rs 54,000 crore due to Singareni
Hyderabad: Union coal and mines minister G. Kishan Reddy on Tuesday accused the previous BRS regime and the incumbent Congress government of systematically looting Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and pushing the state-owned miner to the brink of bankruptcy.
Holding former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and his successor Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directly responsible, he demanded immediate clearance of Rs 54,000 crore in outstanding dues owed to Singareni.
“Thanks to KCR and Revanth Reddy, Singareni is drowning in unpaid bills. Is Singareni not in Telangana? Are Singareni workers not Telangana citizens,” Kishan Reddy questioned at a press conference, challenging Revanth Reddy to answer why the state government is withholding payments.
He alleged that due to the interference of the Chandrashekar Rao family, Singareni literally landed in bankruptcy, and claimed that only after he became Union Coal Minister has justice begun to be done to the company.
Kishan Reddy said the Centre, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has extended full support for Telangana’s development, recently securing Singareni’s third consecutive coal block — Manuguru PKOC-2 Dip Side — through auction. “Many companies were ready to bid, but we ensured Singareni’s future and financial health were protected,” he said, adding that the earlier Tadicherla block and now PKOC-2 have rekindled hope for the miner.
Turning to the cybercrime case involving derogatory posts against Modi and his mother, the minister said an FIR was registered under the Information Technology Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He accused the Revanth Reddy government of harassing the DCP who acted in the case, alleging transfers have become a tool of intimidation, with 44 officer shuffles in two years.
“Cybercrime cases in Telangana jumped 440 per cent from 2020 to 2024. If one case is filed over posts against the Prime Minister, why this rage? No company is above the Constitution,” he said, in reference to Meta, and slammed the “degradation of political language” in Telugu states and warned that such conduct harms democracy.
