Kavitha Slams BRS For Assembly Boycott, Flags Krishna Water Issue

Kavitha alleged that the boycott was planned out of fear that Harish Rao’s alleged corruption would be exposed by the ruling party in the Assembly

Nalgonda: Telangana Jagruthi founder president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Sunday faulted the decision of the BRS to boycott the Assembly sessions and make a PowerPoint presentation on “River Waters – Congress Betrayals” at Telangana Bhavan instead of raising the issue on the floor of the House.

Addressing a media conference at Suryapet as part of her “Jagruthi-Janam Baata” tour, she said the boycott of the Assembly sessions had allowed the Congress government to make false and misleading statements in the House. She alleged that BRS deputy floor leader T. Harish Rao was behind the decision to boycott the sessions. If the call had been taken by the BRS president, she said, it would amount to a historic mistake.

Kavitha alleged that the boycott was planned out of fear that Harish Rao’s alleged corruption would be exposed by the ruling party in the Assembly. She recalled that Harish Rao had served as irrigation minister during the previous BRS government and said the party should have exposed the Congress’s alleged betrayals in Krishna river water sharing on the floor of the House rather than through a presentation at Telangana Bhavan.

She said that despite announcing a discussion on Krishna river water sharing, the government failed to hold a comprehensive debate involving all political parties.

Reacting to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s statement that former chief minister and BRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao should be punished for acts that allegedly harmed Telangana’s interests in Krishna water sharing, Kavitha said the Chief Minister should instead be held accountable for his government’s failure to safeguard the state’s interests.

She also criticised the Chief Minister for remaining silent on Karnataka’s decision to increase the height of the Almatti dam, warning that it could lead to Telangana losing nearly 100 TMC ft of water. She demanded that the Telangana Legislative Assembly immediately pass resolutions opposing the Almatti height increase and the national status granted to the Upper Bhadra project.

Questioning the reduction in water allocations for the Palamuru-Rangareddy and Narayanpet-Kodangal projects, Kavitha sought clarity on who approved the cuts and demanded a statement on agreements that allegedly reduced Telangana’s share by three per cent and on the shifting of intake points from Jurala to Srisailam.

She made it clear that she had resigned her MLC post on moral grounds and would continue to raise public issues fearlessly through Telangana Jagruthi.
