Karimnagar-Warangal NH Works At Final Stage

KARIMNAGAR: The works on the Karimnagar-Warangal national highway (NH 563) have reached the final stage, with the NHAI planning to open the road to the public in the first week of October after a test drive.
The travel time between Karimnagar and Warangal would come down to 45 minutes from the present 90 minutes once the road is inaugurated.
The 68-km four-lane road was taken up at an estimated cost of `1,641 crore as part of the Union government’s Bharatmala Pariyojana.
Solar lighting systems, CCTV cameras and an advanced traffic management system (ATMS) have been installed. A system is in place to enable cops and fire force to reach accident spots quickly.
Besides underpasses, nine major and 23 minor bridges have been erected at different locations. The highway passes through bypass roads at Manakondur, Shankarapatnam and Huzurabad. A toll plaza has also been set up at Kothagattu in Shankarapatnam mandal.
Initially, the road works progressed slowly due to delays in land acquisition and tenders. Though the works began a year and a half ago, local people had caused hurdles demanding approach roads to their villages.
M. Mahesh of Chenjarla told Deccan Chronicle that while they had faced difficulties travelling on the road because of its poor condition, vehicular traffic was now moving smoothly after the four-lane road was laid as part of NH 563.
N. Venkateshwaralu of Shankarapatnam said road accidents had occurred frequently in the past and several people lost their lives. He hoped accidents would decline as the highway has now been laid to international standards.
NHAI plans to dedicate the road to the nation along with other readied for inauguration before the Dasara festival.
