Kakatiya University Pharmacy College Marks Golden Jubilee

The vice-chancellor appreciated the founding faculty for building the institution with dedication despite limited resources and funding

WARANGAL: Vice-chancellor of Kakatiya University, Prof. K. Pratap Reddy, on Sunday called upon the present faculty to uphold the institution’s rich legacy while addressing the Golden Jubilee valedictory ceremony of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Kaloji Kalakshetram in Balasamudram, Hanamkonda district.

The vice-chancellor appreciated the founding faculty for building the institution with dedication despite limited resources and funding. He noted that alumni of the college are now spread across the globe, bringing recognition to the university. Marking the milestone, he announced that Aurobindo Pharma Limited has partnered with the university to support campus placements, internships, and industrial visits. He also said alumni have initiated four new endowment lectures.

Prominent alumni who have reached senior positions in India and the United States addressed the gathering. Dr Ramana Kumary, deputy director at the US Food and Drug Administration, credited the college for shaping her values and urged students to adopt patient-centric thinking with a strong public health perspective.

Dr Mansoor Khan, dean at Texas A&M University, said groundbreaking drugs originate in university laboratories and underlined the importance of strong industry-academia collaboration. Dr Samba Reddy, professor at Texas A&M University, said pharmacy has the potential to transform lives and encouraged researchers to aim for global excellence, including Nobel-level achievements.

Several alumni shared practical guidance for students. Prof Sunith Reddy of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University highlighted the importance of communication skills, while R. Harish Chandra from Apollo Hospitals spoke about expanding career opportunities in retail pharmacy.

The celebrations, marking 50 years of excellence, concluded on a festive note with prizes distributed to winners of competitions held as part of the programme. Retired staff and distinguished alumni were honoured with shawls and mementos. Alumni later toured the campus and joined the vice-chancellor for a high-tea interaction, reminiscing about their college days.
