Kavitha Report - Kavitha Party Gets a New Name, Filing With ECI Reveals Hidden Lie
‘Rashtra’ dropped, Kavitha had never applied for it; EC approves ‘Rakshana’

Hyderabad:Former BRS MLC K. Kavitha, who on April 25 launched her party, appears to have started the new phase of her political career with a lie. The Election Commission of India that approved a name for the party appears to have willy nilly exposed the lie.
All it took for the cards to come falling down was five days. But the seed was sown back in January 2026.
Kavitha launched her party on April 25 and announced its name as Telangana Rashtra Sena. On April 30, the ECI letter, dated April 28 and approving the party name Telangana Rakshana Sena landed in her office. The name announced at the launch was not approved by the ECI because it was not in her application.
Her application, which she admitted on a post on X on Thursday was sent to the ECI in January this year, listed the options of Telangana Praja Jagruti, Telangana Jagruti, Telangana Rakshana Sena, Telangana Rastra Jagruti, and Telangana Praja Shakti. There was no mention of Telangana Rashtra Sena in the list.
Incidentally, when she announced the Telangana Rashtra Sena name, a quiet subscript with the word ‘Association’ was tagged to the name making it TRSA, and not TRS as it appeared at first sight.
While this made it clear that Kavitha knew well beforehand that her party could not be Telangana Rashtra Sena, she went ahead and claimed the same in a likely bid to garner some support from any lingering goodwill that the original TRS brand may have among the public. That there as a lot of uncertainty about what name would be approved even at her party’s launch also was borne with Kavitha’s reaction in a post on X on Thursday following the receipt of the letter from the ECI.
While not making any mention of the previously announced name, Kavitha said: “In January 2026, following standard EC protocol, we submitted five name choices, and the Election Commission has officially granted our third choice. The only one with the acronym TRS. Destiny, it seems, has a sense of irony!” She also added: “I would like to thank the Election Commission and commit to abide by the rules and regulations.”
Though Kavitha also declared: “Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS), it is!” this too may prove to be an early celebration as the ECI approval of the name comes with several conditions.
The ECI, in its letter said, for the actual registration of the party, Kavitha must publish public notices making it clear that if anyone has any objections to the name, such objections could then be sent to the commission. The ECI said the final approval of the name “will be subject to decision on objections that may be filed by the existing parties or others in response to the public notice published by you. It may be noted that unless all requisite particulars/documents have been furnished by you, in accordance with the Commission's guidelines for registration of political parties, your application for registration will not be taken up for consideration.”
Kavitha has been given 30 days to send to the ECI required documents with a fresh application for registration of the party name, failing which, the ECI said, “the case of the registration of the party will be closed without any further communication on the matter.”
