Justice Shameem Akther appointed as THRC chairman, Justice Rajasheker Reddy as Lokayukta

The government on Monday appointed Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy, former judge of the High Court, as Lokayukta and Justice Shameem Akther, retired judge of the High Court, as chairperson of the Telangana Human Rights Commission

Hyderabad: The government on Monday appointed Justice A. Rajasheker Reddy, former judge of the High Court, as Lokayukta and Justice Shameem Akther, retired judge of the High Court, as chairperson of the Telangana Human Rights Commission (THRC). The posts had been vacant for long, and the delay in appointments had reached the High Court.

Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari issued orders appointing Justice Reddy and Justice Akther on Monday.

Justice Rajasheker Reddy shall hold office for five years and will have the status of the Chief Justice of a High Court during his tenure as Lokayukta.

Justice Akther has been appointed for a term of three years, or until he attains the age of 70, years, whichever is earlier.

Justice Akhther recently headed the one-man judicial commission constituted by the state government to recommend measures for implementation of the Scheduled Castes sub-categorisation for extending reservations to sub-castes in education and employment. Based on Justice Akhther's report, the state government passed the SC sub-categorisation Bill in March this year.

The state government has also appointed former District and Sessions Judge B.S. Jagjeevan Kumar Upa-Lokayukta, for five years. He shall have the status of a judge of the High Court status during his tenure.

Retired IAS officer Dr B. Kishore has been appointed member (non-judicial) of the THRC and retired selection-grade District Judge Sivadi Praveena has been appointed member (judicial). Their tenure will be for three years, or until they attains the age of 70.
