Jupally Proposes Two-Way Rural-to-Urban Cultural Exchange
Assuring full government support for transformative reforms, Jupally urged officials and field staff to work in close coordination to achieve the 2026 vision.
Hyderabad: Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday outlined a roadmap to transform Telangana into a global tourism hub, calling on officials to adopt international standards and innovative practices to elevate the State’s tourism profile.
Addressing a workshop titled ‘Tourism and Its Vision – 2026’, organised by the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC), the minister said Telangana must emerge as a model for the country by delivering world-class hospitality without compromising on quality. The workshop began with the minister unveiling the TGTDC Table Calendar–2026.
Highlighting the need for an inclusive tourism model, the minister proposed a two-way rural-to-urban cultural exchange. Under the initiative, domestic and international tourists would be introduced to the lifestyles, cuisines and traditions of rural and tribal communities, while rural populations would be given exposure to the State’s urban development, heritage landmarks and modern infrastructure, including Metro Rail facilities.
Stressing the importance of increasing tourist retention, Rao said Telangana must move beyond being a transit destination and encourage visitors to stay for at least 48 hours. He asserted that the State should compete with, and eventually surpass, leading tourism destinations such as Kerala by ensuring superior standards in accommodation, food and transport.
To boost visibility, he called for targeted promotional campaigns in IT corridors, malls and educational institutions, along with the training of skilled multilingual guides and the use of cultural performances to engage visitors.
