Joint Raids Net Rs 9 Lakh in Penalties for Vehicle Violations

Vigilance teams crack down on tax evasion, overloading and permit violations

Hyderabad: Vigilance and enforcement department officials, along with teams from the transport, mines and state tax departments, conducted joint raids at various locations and collected penalties amounting to about Rs 9 lakh from vehicle owners for violations.

Vigilance and enforcement director general Shikha Goel said the Warangal unit, in coordination with officials from the transport, state tax and mines departments, carried out route inspections on the outskirts of Jangaon district. During the drive, 120 vehicles were checked and penalties were imposed on 21 vehicles for violating statutory norms. According to officials, the transport department imposed penalties of about Rs 1.77 lakh for non-payment of tax and overloading, while the mines department levied penalties of around Rs 20,000 for vehicles operating without valid transit permits. The state tax department imposed penalties of approximately Rs 7.24 lakh for GST evasion. The total penalty collected during the inspections amounted to about Rs 9.21 lakh.
