Hyderabad: A jilted lover Teja, who suffered serious injuries in the mob attack after slitting a woman Vaishnavi's throat and killing her in Jadcherla town on Saturday afternoon, died while undergoing treatment in government hospital in Mahbubnagar district.

Mahbubnagar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), P Vekateswarlu told Deccan Chronicle on Sunday that Teja aged between 28 and 30 died around 11 pm on Saturday in the mob attack. “We could not find any details of Teja so far as identity proof and mobile phone were not found with him,” he said.

The DSP said Teja suffered serious injuries after villagers chased him for over 400 metres and caught hold of him. They tied his hands and legs with a rope and assaulted him resulting in serious injuries.

When villagers repeatedly asked who the victim was, Teja said she fell in love with him, exploited him by taking money and duped him in the name of love. Vaishnavi, who was working at a private school in Polepally Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as a receptionist on the outskirts of Jadcherla town, had just finished her work and was heading home.

“We preserved Teja’s body at the Government Hospital in Mahbubnagar,” he said, exuding confidence that the police would try to collect more details of Teja with the help of call data records (CDR) of Vaishnavi.

According to police, Teja stabbed Vaishnavi (21) to death on Saturday afternoon after she rejected his romantic advances. The incident took place when the woman was getting out of an autorickshaw after completing her work and was about to reach her home in a couple of minutes.

The accused attacked the woman with a knife, injuring her neck. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. Following the attack, people present at the spot allegedly assaulted the accused, who was later admitted to a government hospital in critical condition, police said.

A police officer said the accused and the victim had become acquainted when she was working at a private school in Hyderabad. She had rejected his advances and the two had disputes thereafter, the officer said.
