Hyderabad city police busted the Jubilee Hills 'rich kids trap' case by arresting the kingpin and seven accomplices.
The gang members posed as rich people on social media, to lure young women from the influential families and elite society. The arrested included the kingpin Arjun, his brother Rajeev from Bengaluru, their mother, uncle, and four others.
They created fake profiles on Instagram portraying themselves as wealthy individuals and targeted young girls from rich families across the city.
Police said that the accused posted pictures with sophisticated gadgets and luxury cars to lure the girls and on gaining their trust, the accused took them to remote and isolated places, and sexually assaulted them. The gang members recorded the assault. Showing the same videos to the victims, they blackmailed them and demanded lakhs of rupees.
Police were shocked to find the involvement of family members in the clandestine operation. Following complaints from the victims, the police launched an investigation and arrested the culprits. The arrested, during interrogation, revealed that over 10 people were involved in the network. Police found that the gang had been operating for several months and targeted many young women, from well-to-do families in the city. Police is continuing the investigation to nab the remaining accused.
