Jankampet Set For Solar Power Plant Led By SHG Women

The project is being taken up under the Indira Mahila Shakthi scheme, with zilla mahila samakhya and mandal samakhyas leading its implementation: Reports

NIZAMABAD: Self-help group (SHG) women are set to play a central role in power generation, with a solar power plant proposed at Jankampet village in Yedapally mandal of Nizamabad district.

The project is being taken up under the Indira Mahila Shakthi scheme, with zilla mahila samakhya and mandal samakhyas leading its implementation. As part of the broader plan, 2 MW solar power plants are proposed in each district, and land has already been identified.

In Nizamabad district, the plant will be established on eight acres at Jankampet. The initiative will be managed by the zilla samakhya along with samakhyas of Bodhan, Renjal and Yedapally mandals.

Officials said the project is estimated to cost around ₹3 crore. Nearly 90 per cent of the funding will be provided by banks, while the remaining contribution will come from SHGs. The loans will be repaid over a period of 10 years.

The Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL) will purchase the electricity generated by the SHGs at ₹3.13 per unit, ensuring a steady source of income.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, district rural development officer D. Saya Goud said land has been finalised for the project at Jankampet. He noted that the extent of land was increased from four acres to eight acres following feasibility assessments.

He said the project would enable local power generation and strengthen the role of women-led groups in the energy sector.
