Jammikunta Lineman Gets National Fellowship

Assistant lineman honoured by BDSA for social, literary and artistic service

Karimnagar: An assistant lineman, Gangarapu Rajaiah, from Mediapally village in Jammikunta mandal of Karimnagar district, has been selected for the prestigious Baba Saheb Dr Ambedkar National Fellowship Award-2025.

The award is granted by the Bahratiya Dalit Sahitya Akademi (BDSA) in recognition of his significant social, literary, and artistic services in the line of Ambedkar’s ideals. Rajaiah will receive the honour from national president Dr. S. P. Sumanakshar at the 41st National Conference of Dalit Writers in New Delhi on December 12 and 13.

The Telangana state president of the BDSA, Dr. M. Jitendar, announced the selection. The award recognises individuals, including poets, writers, artists, and social workers, who have demonstrated exceptional performance in promoting the welfare of the Bahujan community.

Rajaiah, who expressed happiness on receiving the award, told Deccan Chronicle that the BDSA was established in 1984 by former vice president of India Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram, to honour those working towards Dr Ambedkar’s mission. Under the guidance of the founder president, S.P. Sumanakshar, the academy has been conferring these distinguished awards annually for the past 41 years. He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Sumankahsar and thanked Dr. Jitendar for recognising his contributions and selecting him for the fellowship award.
