Karimnagar: The Centre has granted administrative approval for a state-of-the-art synthetic athletics track in Jammikunta mandal of Karimnagar district. Under the ‘Khelo India’ scheme, the Union sports ministry has allocated Rs.6.5 crore for this project, on the back of an initiative taken by Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
The project features a 400-metre, four-lane synthetic track designed to meet World Athletics standards. It will be constructed at the Government Degree College grounds located in the Jammikunta municipality. This facility is expected to provide rural athletes from Karimnagar and surrounding areas with access to international-standard straining environments, fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of nurturing global champions from rural India.
Union minister Sanjay expressed his happiness over the approval, stating that the facility would be a major boost for local talent. He urged the state government to follow Central guidelines and complete the construction works quickly so that athletes can begin using the track as soon as possible. Local officials have confirmed that the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction will take place shortly.
It is to be noted here that this initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen sports infrastructure in rural pockets, ensuring that talented youth have the necessary resources to compete at national and international levels.
