Jagtial Migrant Workers’ Kin Still Await Ex Gratia
Rs 2.5 crore approved, but funds yet to reach kin of deceased workers

Hyderabad: The families of 50 Gulf migrant workers from Jagtial district, who died while working abroad, are still waiting for the Gulf ex gratia promised by the Telangana government. Despite the government already sanctioning Rs 2.5 crore for the district, the money is yet to reach the families due to alleged negligence by the General Administration Department’s (GAD) NRI wing in the Secretariat.
Under the ex gratia scheme, family members of the deceased Gulf migrant workers are entitled to Rs 5 lakh as financial support. Jagtial district collector B. Satya Prasad has submitted the required reports to the state government several times and Rs 2.5 crore has been sanctioned to the families in Jagtial.
According to Mandha Bheem Reddy, vice chairman of the NRI Advisory Committee appointed by the Telangana government, ex gratia has been sanctioned to 19 families in Korutla constituency, 14 in Dharmapuri, seven in Jagtial, six in Vemulawada and four in Choppadandi. In total, 50 families are eligible to receive Rs 5 lakh each, amounting to Rs 2.5 crore.
Although all formalities are completed at the district level, the funds have not been credited to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
Sources alleged that the GAD NRI officials at the Secretariat are causing delay, despite the amount being sanctioned.
The affected families, many of whom are facing financial hardship after losing their main breadwinners, have appealed to minister and Dharmapuri MLA Adluri Laxman Kumar for intervention. They have also urged MLAs, MLCs and MPs to take up the issue and call for the immediate release of pending financial assistance.
