Jagtial Man Arrested in Dubai, Family Requests CM to Provide Assistance

After reportedly residing in Dubai for nearly eight years, he was apprehended during an inspection conducted on March 8, 2026.

Hyderabad:Family members of Aegurla Mallesham, a Jagtial-based man who was arrested in Dubai and is not being released until he pays a fine of more than Rs 39 lakhs, are appealing to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to request a fine waiver to help him get released from prison and come back to India.

Mallesham, a native of Beemaram mandal’s Mothkuraopet village, went to Muscat, Oman in 2018 in search of employment, and following misleading advice of unknown men, crossed Oman’s border and entered the United Arab Emirates. After reportedly residing in Dubai for nearly eight years, he was apprehended during an inspection conducted on March 8, 2026.

Mallesham’s wife, mother and sarpanch submitted a petition at the Chief Minister’s Pravasi Prajavani programme, after which the Telangana government forwarded the case to the Indian Consulate in Dubai.

Mandha Bheem Reddy, vice-chairman of Telangana NRI advisory committee, said that the Consulate officials visited Mallesham in Awir Jail in Dubai on July 23. They informed the TG authorities that he was imprisoned on forgery (fake document) charges for six months, and a fine of AED 1,50,000 (approximately `39.31 lakh) was imposed, followed by deportation. Although Mallesham has completed his prison sentence, he continues to remain in jail as he is unable to pay the huge fine.
