HCA Ethics Officer’s Term Is Over, Says Azharuddin

I will definitely take legal recourse and will be appealing to the High Court to stay this order. It is a shame that an India captain's name is being asked to be removed, Azharuddin said

Hyderabad: Former Indian cricket team captain Mohd Azharuddin on Sunday indicated he would fight to have his name restored to the northern stand of the Uppal stadium. He Hyderabad Cricket Association’s acting ombudsman Justice V. Eshwariah’s move to remove his name from the stadium.

Azharuddin also suggested that Justice Eshwariah’s tenure was for one year and it had ended. Azharuddin pointed out that the ethics officer was appointed by the AGM on February 18 last year. He said the HCA’s apex council could not extend the tenure of the in-charge ombudsman, and said he would move the High Court on this issue.

“It’s a shameful action. It has become a hall of shame, mistrust, misuse and abuse of powers by three officebearers? Everything is taking place in HCA other than the cricket. It is shameful that the HCA is in the news everyday. People are laughing, mocking, and making fun of it,” Azharuddin said.

He also said, "Scams worth crores are being brushed under the carpet while young, aspiring cricketers from the state are being robbed of their future."

The HCA has often been in limelight of late for the wrong reasons including internal rivalries and was subjected to a vigilance probe by the state government over the issue of IPL complimentary tickets.

“It’s a matter of great shame that a former Indian captain, who sacrificed his youth for 18 years including 10 years as captain of the Indian team and brought glory to the nation and to Hyderabad cricket, is today being humiliated through cheap politics and behind-the-scenes manipulation,” Azharuddin said. “The HCA was meant to nurture cricketing talent, not become a battleground for personal egos. It’s time the true lovers of the game raise their voice before more damage is done,” he averred.
