HYDERABAD: Irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday directed officials to fast-track land acquisition and relief and rehabilitation for all pending and ongoing irrigation projects in the state.
Addressing a review meeting with department officials at the Secretariat, Uttam Kumar Reddy said chronic delays in land acquisition had become a major drag on timelines and cost estimates. Proactive engagement with affected landowners and communities, addressing compensation, rehabilitation, and resettlement issues need focus and transparent handling, he said.
The minister stressed on two projects — Palamuru-Rangareddy and Sitaramasagar — both which he said are critical for irrigating large, drought-hit regions. He said top priority must be given by officials to every stage of these projects, and uninterrupted work needs to be ensured.
With monsoon inflows rising across reservoirs, Uttam Kumar Reddy reviewed the operational readiness of irrigation structures, and said officials must be on the alert, monitor levels closely, and activate emergency protocols as needed.
He said the Congress government is committed to completing irrigation projects on time and judicious use of public funds, and sought regular updates on officials on various matters related to irrigation projects.
