Invoking Freedom Struggle Legacy, Bhatti Pledges Modern Facelift for Historic Madhira

To prevent frequent power disruptions caused by fallen trees during heavy rains, underground cable works have been initiated

Hyderabad: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, speaking in Madhira (Khammam) on Sunday, vowed an acceleration of the town's all-round development, acknowledging its deep historical roots from the freedom struggle.

The Deputy CM made this pledge after laying the foundation stone for the new Madhira Municipal Office building. He marked the significance of the day, December 28, noting it was the anniversary of the All India Congress formation by 86 leaders dedicated to safeguarding India's independence, democracy, and Constitution.

Bhatti declared that the new municipal building would symbolise a commitment to people-oriented governance, guaranteeing the efficient delivery of essential civic services, including drainage and infrastructure. He stated, “This office will reflect the commitment of our staff toward the welfare of Madhira’s citizens.”

He also paid tribute to the town’s rich past, recalling how the freedom fighter Sardar Jamalapuram Kesava Rao defied the Nizam government by secretly hoisting the tricolor, designed by Pingali Venkaiah, in the heart of Madhira, thereby igniting the regional spirit of freedom.

Addressing the current challenge of limited expansion due to the town's geographical constraints (a river on one side, a pond on the other), Bhatti confirmed that the government has approved an Outer Ring Road project and allocated necessary funds for land acquisition to accommodate the growing population. He issued a stern warning to officials and contractors that any poor-quality work on underground drainage projects would result in strict action.

To prevent frequent power disruptions caused by fallen trees during heavy rains, underground cable works have been initiated. Additionally, Bhatti announced plans for a G+2 housing colony for the poor, a scheme modeled after the rural Indiramma housing initiative, with the Bhoomi Puja to be held soon.

The Deputy CM concluded by observing the strong opportunities for trade and transport connectivity presented by Madhira's location—its proximity to Amaravati city, Bandar port, and the existing railway line—which he believes will pave the way for the town's future growth. He affirmed, “Madhira is a town that belongs to all of us.”
