Hyderabad:The All India Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) is set to have its plenary session in New Delhi from December 1 to 3. INTUC president Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy has invited AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to inaugurate the 34th plenary.

More than 8,000 general council members, delegates, observers, and international trade union delegates and central trade union leaders are set to participate in the three-day session to be held at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi.

Speaking at an event to announced the plenary, Dr Sanjeeva Reddy said that the struggle for freedom continued beyond political independence, towards the freedom of thought and the protection of democracy. He said India needed a second independence movement, carrying forward Mahatma Gandhi’s spirit of political freedom and renewing the commitment to democratic values, constitutional rights, and freedom of thought.

Dr Reddy emphasised that the present challenge was to free democracy from “Andh Bhakti”, the unquestioning surrender of critical thinking to leaders, ideologies, and institutions. He said that true independence meant the freedom to question, the courage to speak, and the responsibility to hold those in power accountable
