Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) Employees Union elections concluded amid much excitement, with the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) registering a landslide victory.

INTUC candidate Mogulla Raji Reddy won by a massive margin of 756 votes, securing a decisive mandate from employees.

According to union representatives, the elections were conducted through secret ballot across 22 divisions and nearly 300 sections of the board, covering Greater Hyderabad and the adjoining districts of Sangareddy, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri.

Of the 2,761 votes polled, 39 were declared invalid. The INTUC, contesting on the Trishul symbol, secured 1,739 votes, while the BRTU received 983 votes. Raji Reddy’s victory margin stood at 756 votes.

Union leaders said the emphatic mandate reflected employees’ confidence in INTUC’s leadership and its commitment to protecting workers’ rights, ensuring job security, advocating fair wages and promoting employee welfare.

Speaking after the declaration of results, Raji Reddy said, “This victory is not mine alone. It belongs to every employee of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board. It is a victory of unity, trust and the collective aspirations of the workforce. I am deeply grateful to every employee who reposed faith in me and in INTUC. I remain committed to safeguarding the rights, welfare, dignity and job security of all employees.”

INTUC leaders attributed the victory to strong organisational unity, extensive grassroots campaigning and the trust built with employees over the years. They said the coordinated efforts of the union leadership and cadre played a crucial role in securing the historic mandate.

The victory marks a significant milestone in the history of the trade union movement and reinforces INTUC’s position as a trusted and influential voice of the working class.
