INTUC Chief Sanjeeva Reddy Demands Economic Freedom, Fair Wages, and Social Security for Workers
He said trade unions should stand with workers and their families during difficult times
Hyderabad: INTUC president Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy called for economic freedom and social justice for workers, saying political freedom must be accompanied by decent employment, fair wages, social security and dignity of labour.
Dr Reddy, veteran trade union leader and former minister, hoisted the National Flag at the 95-year-old VST Workers Union office, Azamabad Power House Industrial Area and Telangana INTUC headquarters in Hyderabad. He paid tributes to freedom fighters and said poverty could be addressed by creating decent employment and ensuring fair and living wages that allow workers to live with dignity.
As part of the celebrations, Reddy extended financial assistance to the family of M. Nagabhushanam, an autorickshaw driver who died of cardiac arrest. He said trade unions should stand with workers and their families during difficult times. Reddy also appreciated Auto Workers Union leaders Mallesh Goud, Narsimha Reddy and Nagraj for supporting workers and their families.
Dr Reddy said trade unions should go beyond collective bargaining and wage negotiations and play a role in social protection, workers’ welfare and humanitarian assistance. G. Satyajeet Reddy, R.D. Chandra Shekar, Vijay Kumar Yadav, Abraham, Mallesh Goud, Narsimha Reddy, and Sujith Gandhi, among others, attended the flag-hoisting programme.
