Hyderabad: Hyderabad’s international children’s theatre festival will return to Ravindra Bharathi this month in a larger second edition, after last year’s debut gave schoolchildren a stage alongside groups from Japan, Nepal and several Indian cities.

The festival, organised by Nishumbita school of drama, in collaboration with the Telangana department of language and culture, is scheduled from July 20 - 24 and the entry will be free. Programmes are scheduled to start from 9 am and will include 27 performances.

Young theatre groups from India and abroad are expected to take part, including Japan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and more. Schools have been invited to present plays of 45 minutes to one hour in English, Hindi or Telugu.

The festival is planned as a space for children to experience theatre, work across languages and cultures and meet other young performers through the performing arts.

Last year, the first edition ran from April 7 to 9 at Ravindra Bharathi. It featured about 20 plays, including mime, shadow puppetry and multilingual folk dramas, by Hyderabad schools and groups from Japan, Nepal, Kerala, Kolkata and Bhopal.
