Intermittent Power Hits Pumping: Irrigation Department
If the power supply can meet its operational needs, then the irrigation department said it could efficiently run the 28 pumps in the six pump houses and pump water from one source to the other, depending on the water levels in them.

Hyderabad: The irrigation department has told the energy department that the “intermittent” power supply to six pump houses that were built as part of the Kaleshwaram project was “insufficient” to meet its operational needs, and has sought uninterrupted supply of power totalling 1671.76 mega watts (MW) for at least 45 days.
The issue of intermittent power supply to the Tippapur, Chandlapur, Tukkapur, Akkaram, and Markook pumping stations was first flagged by a senior engineer of the irrigation department following which a meeting has been scheduled on August 28 between top officials of the irrigation and energy departments, and those from TG Transmission Corporation Limited.
In a letter, the irrigation department said: “It is essential to operate the pumps efficiently” and “at short notice given the ongoing heavy rains and varying inflows into Mid-Manair and other reservoirs. For this purpose, continuous power supply is required since the present intermittent supply is insufficient to meet operational needs.”
The plan is to pump water from Mid-Manair reservoir to Annapurna reservoir, then to Sri Ranganayakasagar from where the water is to be lifted to Sri Komuravelli Mallannasagar and finally taken to Kondapochammasagar. All the pumphouses in question and the reservoirs other than Mid-Manair, were built as part of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme (KLIS).
If the power supply can meet its operational needs, then the irrigation department said it could efficiently run the 28 pumps in the six pump houses and pump water from one source to the other, depending on the water levels in them.
Important Points:
Uninterrupted power needed
Pumphouses – Pumps X Capacity (MW)
Tippapur: 4 X 106
Chandlapur: 4 X 134.44
Tukkapur: 8 X 43
Akkaram: 6 X 27
Markook: 6 X 34
Total: 5 pumphouses, 28 pumps, 1,671.76 MW required
Pumping plans
Mid-Manair to Annapurna reservoir.
Annapurna reservoir to Ranganayakasagar.
Ranganayakasagar to Komuravelli Mallannasagar.
Mallannasagar to Kondapochammasagar.
