Intermediate Department to Launch Facial Recognition for Attendance
Department has come up with the initiative after noting that 40 staff of students skipped college during the last academic year.

Hyderabad: The intermediate education department is set to launch facial recognition system (FRS) from Saturday for taking attendance. It is expected that this will tackle absenteeism among students, teaching and non-teaching staff.
Officials said that in the case of students, the system would alert parents if their wards failed to turn up at college. The alert will be sent through a message, by Whatsapp or SMS to the registered mobile number.
Colleges must register student credentials along with their photographs in the FRS application. Attendance will be marked by a selfie and a group photograph of the classroom, the system verifies the photographs with registered details and location to confirm location.
Once the photograph is captured, it will appear with a green circle. In case of duplicate entries blue circle will indicate, which will be rechecked by principals.
The FRS will be started in all 430 government junior colleges, covering 1.8 lakh students and staff. Attendance will be taken twice a day in morning and afternoon to make sure students come regularly.
