CM Revanth Demands Expulsion of BRS MLC Over Remarks Against Speaker
BJP and AIMIM condemn, urges to act tough
Hyderabad: Chief Minister A, Revanth Reddy has demanded that Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy immediately dismiss and expel BRS MLC Tata Madhusudhan from the Upper House, following his derogatory remarks against Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar. The Chief Minister also demanded that demanded BRS president and Leader of Opposition K. Chandrashekar Rao tender an unconditional apology for his party member's conduct.
Speaking in the House, the Chief Minister said that this was not only a personal insult to Prasad Kumar but to the dignity of the Speaker's chair, the House, and for all of Telangana. Calling it a ‘dark day’, Revanth Reddy said that the language that MLC Madhusudhan used against the Speaker and his family was unpardonable.
“Such an incident has never happened anywhere in independent India. It is high time that this type of ‘wicked mannerisms’ (durmargamaina pokada) should be brought under control. KCR should immediately apologise,” Revanth Reddy said, to applause from the treasury benches.
He said that the time had come for the government and entire machinery take tough action against such elements. Describing this as an insult to not just Dalits, but everyone, Revanth Reddy recalled how the BRS had remained anti-Dalit even during its tenure in power.
He recalled how the BRS leadership had betrayed the community through false promises of making a Dalit community member as Chief Minister after the formation of Telangana. Revanth Reddy also recollected how Dalit community protestors were mowed down by sand-laden lorries in Nerella and farmers from the community tortured in Khammam by the BRS regime. He also recalled how a Dalit community leader —Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka — was humiliated after he became CLP leader, by stripping him of the Opposition status to a national party like the Congress.
Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar was overwhelmed with emotion broke down in tears in the House after panchayat raj minister Danasari ‘Seethakka’ Anasuya took up the issue. The Speaker was seen wiping his tears in the House. While condemning the remarks made against him by Madhusudhan outside of the Assembly premises before the start of the session, Seethakka said that insulting the Speaker's mother was deeply painful. The minister, who was also emotionally moved, demanded that the Legislative Council Chairman suspend the membership of Madhusudan. She also demanded that Chandrashekar Rao should suspend the MLC from the party.
The BJP and AIMIM also urged that action be initiated against the erring MLC. BJPLP leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy and MLA Payal Shankar said that the behaviour of the MLC was unacceptable and that they strongly condemned this behaviour. “Since none of the BRS leaders have apologised for this, it was about time the MLC be expelled,” said Maheshwar Reddy.
AIMIM MLA Ahmed bin Abdullah Balala condemned Madhusudhan and felt that the outbursts of the MLC reflected his upbringing. “The language was condemnable. By acting tough against the MLC, let there be a strong message sent all over. They (BRS leadership) should come clean over the issue,” Balala emphasised.
