Inflows into Sriramsagar Project Double

Currently, the water level in the Sriramsagar Project stands at 1,069.2 feet, against its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 1,091.00 feet. The water storage reached 22.053 TMC ft as of Saturday.

Nizamabad: Water inflows into the Sriramsagar Project(SRSP) doubled on Saturday due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. Continuous rains in Nizamabad, Nirmal, and the Nanded district of neighbouring Maharashtra have significantly increased the flow of water in the Godavari River. As a result, inflows touched 6,500 cusecs on Saturday, compared to just 2,500 cusecs over the past few days.

Currently, the water level in the Sriramsagar Project stands at 1,069.2 feet, against its Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 1,091.00 feet. The water storage reached 22.053 TMC ft as of Saturday. On the same day last year, the reservoir held a water level of 1,072.40 feet and 27.579 TMC ft in storage. The incessant rainfall has increased water flow in the Godavari and its tributary Manjeera, along with various rivulets and streams across several districts.

Evaporation losses in the reservoir have been recorded at 291 cusecs, and 231 cusecs have been released to meet drinking water requirements under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme. From June 1, 2025, to Saturday, SRSP has received 12.139 TMC ft of inflows, while 3.045 TMC ft has been released as outflow. Project officials are coordinating closely with irrigation authorities in Maharashtra’s Nanded district to manage the evolving flood situation.

Meanwhile, inflows into the Pocharam Reservoir, located on the Kamareddy-Medak district border, and the Nizamsagar Project have also increased. Farmers in Nizamabad and Kamareddy districts are in high spirits due to the favourable rainfall and rising water levels in major and medium irrigation projects. However, due to the downpour, several roads in the region have experienced flooding near streamlets.
