Industry Participation a Must for Curriculum Design, Says Telangana Official

Speakers said the Hyderabad meeting helped shift the conversation closer to implementation.

Hyderabad: Telangana Council of Higher Education chairman V. Balakista Reddy on Thursday said industry participation in designing curriculum has become essential as higher education adapts to fast-changing technology needs.

Pointing to recent curriculum revisions and training tie-ups with industry bodies such as Nasscom and BDMA to better prepare students for global requirements, he said Telangana’s large network of technical institutions offered clear scope for stronger academic and industry links between India and the US, particularly in AI and cybersecurity.

Reddy was speaking at a conference on AI and cybersecurity organised by the US Consulate in Hyderabad and the World Trade Centre, Shamshabad.

Speaking at the meeting, US Consul General Laura Williams said the emphasis was on outcomes rather than announcements. “This is about creating trusted technology ecosystems that protect innovation, strengthen supply chains and open new opportunities for collaboration,” she said, adding that the aim was to move beyond statements to real partnerships.

Speakers said the Hyderabad meeting helped shift the conversation closer to implementation. Discussions focused on how universities, start-ups and industry can work together on artificial intelligence systems, cybersecurity tools and skills development, while keeping safety, accountability and national interests central.

The conference featured panel discussions on narrowing policy-to-practice gaps, joint research models and long-term cooperation frameworks. Academics from American and Indian universities, along with representatives from technology firms, discussed ways to support shared research, training programmes and safe deployment of emerging technologies.
