Indians Look to Australia for Foreign Work

In the 2023-2024 term, until June 2024, Australia issued a total of 18,400 temporary skilled worker visas. By June 2025, during the 2024–2025 term, the number of visas issued to Indians alone rose to 26,880 — a 46 per cent increase in just one year.

Hyderabad: More Indians are moving to Australia as temporary skilled workers. Over 26,000 Indians received temporary skilled worker visas to work in Australia in 2024-2025, up to June 30.

With 20.6 per cent of all visas granted by Australia, India topped the list for temporary skilled workers this year, followed by the Philippines, the United Kingdom, and Nepal.

In the 2023-2024 term, until June 2024, Australia issued a total of 18,400 temporary skilled worker visas. By June 2025, during the 2024–2025 term, the number of visas issued to Indians alone rose to 26,880 — a 46 per cent increase in just one year.

Both primary visa applications (visas issued to workers) and secondary applications (visas issued to spouses, de facto partners, or dependent children) saw significant growth. Until June 2024, Australia had issued 7,770 primary visas and 10,620 secondary visas. For 2024–2025, until June 30, the numbers increased to 12,360 primary visas and 14,520 secondary visas.

New South Wales recorded the highest number of nominated positions for temporary worker visa applicants, with 5,180 workers, followed by Victoria (3,960), Queensland (1,340), and Western Australia (1,080).
