Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mohd. Fazal, a Hyderabad-based student in Vancouver, said "Carney has a lot of experience in economics, and it gives me hope that he will understand the value immigrants bring to the Canadian economy.”
“We're hopeful that his policies will support job growth and recognize the contributions of skilled immigrants," he explained.
During his election campaigns, Carney said that the relationship between India and Canada is very important. “It’s an incredibly important relationship, the Canada-India relationship, on many levels. On the personal level, Canadians have deep personal ties with India both economically and strategically”, he said.
Suresh Babu, a permanent resident in Brampton, Ontario, said "Mark Carney’s leadership showed that he could stand up to external pressures. We believe his confidence will translate into policies that support not only the immigrant community, but also the overall country."
M. Dinesh, an international consultant based in Hyderabad said, "While it is still very early, Carney's global perspective does suggest an efficient eye towards immigration. He openly supported immigrants, but we still have to wait for some more time to understand his policies."
