ADILABAD: Advisor to the state government for SC, ST, BC and minorities welfare Mohammed Ali Shabbir said the government was committed to social justice and pursuing an inclusive development model with emphasis on education, empowerment, livelihoods and social security for marginalised communities.
Addressing the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Police Parade Grounds in Adilabad on Saturday after Hoisting the National Flag and receiving the guard of honour, Shabbir said the government was investing in housing, healthcare, education, livelihoods and infrastructure while implementing the six guarantees promised to the people.
He said three new SC hostels were being constructed in the district at a cost of `11.10 crore, while `96 lakh was being spent on repairs to existing hostels.
The government had sanctioned `15 crore for a new ITDA building at Utnoor, he said. Dal Mill, Mahua Laddu and bamboo units had also been established to strengthen tribal livelihoods.
Shabbir said women were among the major beneficiaries of the government’s six guarantees, including the Mahalakshmi scheme. As many as 11,916 self-help groups were being supported through interest-free credit and livelihood activities. Fresh applications for Cheyutha pensions would be accepted until August 31, he said.
The Independence Day programme was briefly disrupted when BJP activists led by MLA Payal Shankar’s son, Payal Sharath, objected to the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph on the Smart Ration Cards being distributed by Shabbir. A push-and-pull situation reportedly occurred between BJP workers and the police, while Congress leaders and cadre opposed the demand.
