IMD Issues Orange Alert for 5 Days in Telangana

An orange alert indicates heavy rainfall with a heightened risk of flooding, transportation disruption and power outages, and comes with an advise to citizens to stay indoors if possible.

Hyderabad:The IMD on Wednesday issued an orange alert for several districts, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and winds touching 50–60 kmph over the next five days. An orange alert indicates heavy rainfall with a heightened risk of flooding, transportation disruption and power outages, and comes with an advise to citizens to stay indoors if possible.

The weather shift is also being watched for signs of monsoon advancement. According to the Met Centre, the southwest monsoon is likely to progress further into the South Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal in the coming days.

Meanwhile, recent spells of rain have disrupted harvesting in several regions. In Mulugu, paddy kept at procurement centres was drenched, while standing crops in Mancherial, Siddipet, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Warangal, Sangareddy and Vikarabad were battered by winds and hail.

Early estimates suggest significant damage to paddy, maize and mango crops between May 12 and 14. In some places, hailstorms led to premature fruit fall, echoing losses from April’s freak weather that affected thousands of acres. Farmers now fear further losses as isolated rains continue in districts like Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal.
