IMD Forecasts Extremely Heavy Rains in Telangana, CM Revanth Reddy Alerts Officials
The IMD forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday.
Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations on Wednesday and Thursday, and very heavy rainfall on Friday and Saturday.
It said that under the rainfall could result in uprooting of trees, localised landslides, mudslides and landslips in hilly areas, inundation in low-lying areas and occasional reduction of visibility.
They also issued low to moderate flash flood risks to Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet and Mahbubnagar districts during heavy rains.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy instructed the commissioners of the city corporations, along with HYDRAA and police commissioners to work in coordination and constantly monitor the monsoon situation.
He ordered civic authorities to take immediate measures to prevent waterlogging on main roads, junctions and residential colonies, and directed them to deploy required personnel and machinery promptly in water-stagnant areas.
The extremely heavy rain forecast was warning to Khammam, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Mahbubabad, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Peddapallu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally and Mulugu districts for Wednesday.
They also issued a warning of heavy rainfall for Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Jangaon, Suryapet and Nalgonda districts for Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Hyderabad witnessed moderate showers in several parts including Miyapur, Kukatpally, Secunderabad, Koti, Vanasthalipuram, Charminar.
The sudden rainfall briefly interrupted Ganesh nimmajanam celebrations.
Speaking with Deccan Chronicle, HYDRAA officials stated that nine trees fell down due to the rain, and the Agency’s DRF and METs cleared them.
According to data released by the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Himayatnagar’s Vittalwadi received the highest rainfall in the city with 32.8 mm of rain.
Statewide, Vikarabad district’s Thorrimamidi received the highest rainfall with 56.5 mm.
