Illegal Kidney Transplant Racket: Nine Arrested, Several Absconding
Hyderabad: In a significant breakthrough, the Rachakonda Police, in collaboration with the Special Operations Team (SOT) of LB Nagar Zone and the District Medical and Health Office (DMHO) of Ranga Reddy district, dismantled an illegal kidney transplantation racket on January 21, 2025. The operation was centered at Alakananda Hospital in Doctors Colony, Saroor Nagar.
The police arrested nine individuals involved in the racket, including key doctors, mediators, and medical assistants. Among those apprehended were Dr. Siddamshetty Avinash, a general surgeon, and Dr. Guntupally Sumanth, the managing director of Alakananda Hospital. Several other suspects, including main surgeons Dr. Raj Shekhar and Dr. Sohib, remain absconding.
The racket was orchestrated by organizers based in Vizag, while mediators and medical staff from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Nalgonda district were also complicit. Investigations revealed that the accused used Alakananda Hospital as a hub for conducting illegal organ transplants.
During the raid, police seized a TATA Punch car, ₹5,00,000 in cash, 10 mobile phones, and surgical operation kits. Authorities are now intensifying their efforts to track down the remaining absconding suspects and identify potential victims of the racket.
