Illegal Cattle Blood Extraction Racket Busted in Rampally

According to the petition filed by the police, blood was being extracted from sheep and goats in an unauthorised manner.

Hyderabad:Keesara police said they had conducted a raid at Sonu Chicken and Mutton Market in Rampally following credible information about the alleged illegal cattle blood extraction racket.

According to the petition filed by the police, blood was being extracted from sheep and goats in an unauthorised manner. After the extraction, the dead animals were allegedly resold as meat and supplied to the market. The police stated that the procedure was carried out without veterinary supervision, a clear violation of animal welfare norms.

A source said that tests were conducted on Monday by the respective departments to ascertain their nature and composition. While the test results are awaited, police secured video evidence documenting the illegal blood extraction process.

A veterinary staffer warned that meat from animals that have undergone such procedures could be dangerous for consumption, especially if the animal was infected.

Meanwhile, the Medchal Malkajgiri collector who is to give a go-ahead for the investigation, and whether it is to be handled by the law and order police or the respective departments — GHMC and veterinary and animal husbandry— did not respond.

Assistant director of the Animal Welfare Board, Mounika, confirmed that her department had received a formal complaint in the matter. “We are looking into it,” she said.
