Hyderabad: Two public universities in Hyderabad – Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad and Maulana Azad National Urdu University (Manuu), Hyderabad — held separate candlelight marches condemning the Pahalgam terror attack earlier this month.
IIT Hyderabad organised a procession on April 28, where students, faculty and staff gathered in the evening with candles and placards that read “Stand Against Terror.” On Tuesday, Manuu organised a march beginning from its administrative block. The procession concluded at the campus gate after a two-minute silence was observed. Faculty associations, staff and students participated in large numbers and called the act of violence an assault on humanity.
Dr Aslam Parwez, representing the Officers Association, said hatred had no scriptural basis in any religion and condemned the killings unequivocally. Shaik Naveed of the Employees Welfare Association described the attack as one on the nation’s conscience and demanded preventive measures from the government.
Several members of both institutions carried placards in English, Urdu and Hindi and denounced terrorism while expressing solidarity with Kashmir’s victims.
