IIT Madras Alumni Discuss Sustainable Cities
"To build environmentally resilient and long-lasting urban spaces, there must be a shared responsibility in delivering well-planned infrastructure and essential services”: Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail managing director N.V.S. Reddy emphasised that as urbanisation accelerates across India, cities are coming under increasing pressure. “To build environmentally resilient and long-lasting urban spaces, there must be a shared responsibility in delivering well-planned infrastructure and essential services,” Reddy said.
He was speaking at a meet, "Sustainable and Green Cities” organised by the IIT Madras alumni and faculty here on Saturday. He highlighted that public transport, eco-friendly waste management, protection of water bodies, rainwater harvesting, flood control measures, and affordable housing are key components of a sustainable urban future.
Citing the success of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, Reddy invited greater participation from IITs in upcoming expansion projects. He also expressed a strong interest in integrating innovative ideas from academia into future metro developments.
