IIT Hyderabad gains ‘national eminence’ status, donations now 100% tax-exempt
Dean, alumni and corporate affairs, Prof. Mahendrakumar Madhavan added, “Giving is a joyous feeling, and this full tax waiver makes contributing to IITH’s research and development even more rewarding.”

Hyderabad: Donations to IIT Hyderabad (IITH) will now be tax-exempt under Section 80G of the Income-Tax Act, following its recognition as an institute of national eminence by the Centre.
Previously, donations were eligible for only a 50 per cent tax deduction. Effective March 27, the 100 per cent deduction is expected to enhance IITH’s appeal to philanthropists and corporate donors, encouraging greater contributions towards academic excellence, research, and technological innovation.
IITH Director Prof. B.S. Murty welcomed the move, urging corporates, alumni, and well-wishers to support education, indigenous technology, and entrepreneurship. Dean, alumni and corporate affairs, Prof. Mahendrakumar Madhavan added, “Giving is a joyous feeling, and this full tax waiver makes contributing to IITH’s research and development even more rewarding.”
