IIT-H Global Ranking Climbs 76 Places, UoH Retains Rank
The University of Hyderabad (UoH), another university that found a place in the QS World University Rankings 2027, has retained its global position as it continued to be placed in the 851–900 band globally.

Hyderabad: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H) emerged as one of the fastest-rising institutions in the country, climbing 76 places from 664 to 588 globally, according to the QS World University Rankings 2027. The institute’s research impact stood out, with a global rank of 123 in the Citations per Faculty indicator, placing it among the world’s leading research-intensive institutions. Its score in the category rose to 86.8.
The rankings show IIT Hyderabad now performs better than 61 per cent of 1,500 institutions accessed globally from 100 countries, compared to 55.9 per cent last year. Among 52 Indian institutions evaluated, it ranked 17th overall and 14th nationally in research citations.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, IIT Hyderabad director Prof. B.S. Murty said the improvement reflected the institute’s focus on deep-tech innovation and translational research. “Rising 76 places globally and entering the top 123 in Citations per Faculty shows that our research is actively shaping global scientific discourse,” he said.

The university’s strongest indicators included Sustainability (53.4), Citations per Faculty (48.1) and International Research Network (28.9). It also reported a score of 98.1 for staff holding PhDs, reflecting the strength of its academic workforce.
UoH Vice Chancellor Prof. J. Anuradha said the ranking reflected the efforts of faculty, researchers and students. “We see rankings as an outcome of our academic work rather than an end in themselves. Our focus remains on strengthening research, improving learning opportunities and building global partnerships,” she said.
