ICE Detained Nearly 28K Indians in 4 Years

Hyderabad: More than 27,800 Indian nationals were detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) between 2022 and 2025, according to data released by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
The data showed that ICE recorded 27,806 detentions of Indian nationals during the period. The highest number was reported in 2022, when 9,114 Indians were taken into custody.
In 2025, detentions stood at 2,782. The Phoenix Area of Responsibility (AOR) accounted for the largest share, with 13,272 cases, nearly half of the total detentions. It was followed by San Diego (4,253), New Orleans (2,954), Seattle (1,391) and Buffalo (1,327).
The data also showed that ICE made 3,639 arrests of Indian nationals between 2022 and 2025. Arrests differ from detentions as they involve individuals being formally taken into custody for alleged immigration violations or other offences.
The highest number of arrests was recorded in 2023, at 1,483. In 2025, ICE reported 151 arrests. Among its operational regions, Seattle recorded the highest number of arrests (423), followed by Chicago (378), Denver (357), San Francisco (304) and New Orleans (284).
ICE further reported 3,103 removals and deportations of Indian nationals during the period. Deportations peaked in 2024, when 1,529 Indians were removed from the United States. In 2025, the agency reported 627 deportations.
Among ICE’s areas of responsibility, Buffalo recorded the highest number of deportations with 645 removals, followed by Seattle with 583. ICE Headquarters accounted for 230 removals, while Houston recorded 182 and New Orleans reported 161 deportations.
