IAS Officer’s Wife Trusts Gandhi Hospital Again For Risky Delivery

“It was a very high-risk case. The premature baby was delivered at 9.40 am, followed by a two-hour surgical procedure. The mother is in ICU and will soon be shifted to the general ward”: Dr N. Vani, superintendent of Gandhi Hospital

HYDERABAD: A growing trend in Telangana’s public healthcare system is seeing IAS officers and their families increasingly opting for government hospitals.

In the latest case, The wife of V.P. Gautam, Telangana Housing Board secretary, delivered a premature baby at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, on Monday. The high-risk pregnancy, reportedly complicated by placenta previa, needed specialised and coordinated care.

Routine antenatal check-ups were conducted at Gandhi Hospital, while major scans were done at a private facility. Gandhi Hospital specialists carried out independent evaluations and managed the delivery.

“It was a very high-risk case. The premature baby was delivered at 9.40 am, followed by a two-hour surgical procedure. The mother is in ICU and will soon be shifted to the general ward,” said Dr N. Vani, superintendent of Gandhi Hospital.

Officials noted this reflected a broader shift. In recent months, Peddapalli collectr Koya Sriharsha chose the Government General Hospital at Godavarikhani for his wife’s delivery, while Bhadradri Kothagudem collector Jitesh V. Patil also opted for a government hospital for maternal care.

Karimnagar collector Pamela Satpathy underwent functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and septoplasty at Karimnagar Government Hospital.

Gautam told this paper that his wife’s first delivery had taken place at a government hospital in Bhadrachalam. Despite this being a complicated case, we chose Gandhi Hospital because of the doctors’ competence and experience. The new MCH block has excellent facilities, and specialists from gynaecology, paediatrics, anaesthesia, radiology, urology and cardiothoracic departments were all available. The team led by Dr Vani and Dr Shobha did a remarkable job,” he said.

Healthcare professionals believe such examples are helping build greater public trust in government hospitals across Telangana.
