HYDRAA To Restore And Rejuvenate Krishna Kanth Park lake To 12 Acres
The lake previously received large volumes of rainwater from Jubilee Hills: Reports
HYDERABAD: HYDRAA has begun work to expand and deepen the lake at Krishna Kanth Park in Yousufguda to help control flooding in Krishnanagar, Yousufguda and Ameerpet. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath launched the restoration works on Saturday. The lake, which was once spread across 27 acres, was reduced to just three acres when the area was developed into the park. HYDRAA is now planning to expand it to 12 acres.
The lake previously received large volumes of rainwater from Jubilee Hills, Venkatagiri, Krishnanagar and Yousufguda. With its capacity reduced, even 5 cm of rainfall often resulted in flooding in Krishnanagar, Yousufguda and Maitrivanam.
The state government has deputed HYDRAA to restore and expand the lake to improve its capacity to hold rainwater. The project includes deepening the lake and developing inlets to allow rainwater to flow in easily, along with outlets to ensure excess water drains out. Trees at the site will be relocated following approval from the tree protection committee, and replanted near Sunnam Cheruvu.
The project also aims to improve the park's facilities. Plans include constructing a bund around the lake, developing a walking path, adding another open gym and improving seating areas and children's play facilities. Fencing will be installed to prevent people from entering the water. HYDRAA said the restored lake would help improve groundwater levels in the surrounding areas while providing a better recreational space for visitors.
