HYDRAA Sets August Deadline For Thammidikunta, Sunnam Cheruvu Works

HYDERABAD: HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Wednesday directed officials to complete development works at Thammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur by the third week of August.
The commissioner inspected restoration works at both lakes and reviewed progress on pathways, main gates and inlet development to ensure direct flow of rainwater into the water bodies.
Officials said the lakes are being developed to support flood control and groundwater recharge. Works include construction of bunds, pathways, parks, open gyms and play areas.
HYDRAA has cleared encroachments at Sunnam Cheruvu, restoring its extent from 16.4 acres to 30.5 acres. Thammidikunta is being restored from 16.2 acres to 29.3 acres.
The project also includes development of inlets to channel floodwater into the lakes and outlets to regulate excess water once capacity is reached.
The commissioner said measures would be taken to prevent flooding in surrounding areas and directed that construction of sewage treatment plants be expedited to stop sewage inflow into the lakes.
