HYDRAA Reviews Musi River Demarcation

The session, chaired by HYDRAA Ccommissioner A.V. Ranganath, focused on identifying the boundaries of the Musi river and mapping drain networks within ORR.

Hyderabad: HYDRAA officials held a meeting on Friday on demarcation of Musi river, and identification of Musi’s nala network within Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits.

The session, chaired by HYDRAA Ccommissioner A.V. Ranganath, focused on identifying the boundaries of the Musi river and mapping drain networks within ORR. Although HYDRAA is not part of the Musi beautification project, it received hundreds of complaints about Musi river encroachments.

Experts suggested using village and revenue records, along with hydrology reports, National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) satellite imagery, Survey of India records and old government documents around Musi river’s catchment area to demarcate the river’s boundaries.

Concerns were also raised about clogged stormwater drains. Authorities stated that there are 940 culverts under GHMC, and at almost all the places, trash and waste is getting accumulated which is not allowing the river to flow freely.

Officials also discussed many drains having lost their natural links, which is causing waterlogging. Experts called for a full survey of drains and a proper action plan, involving various state and central agencies working on city development.
