HYDRAA Kickstarts Restoration of 4 More Lakes
Ranganath directed contractors to remove silt from the lakes and strengthen the bunds.
Hyderabad: HYDRAA has started restoration works on four more lakes as part of its Phase-II operations of restoring lakes across Hyderabad. The rejuvenation projects, costing Rs.107 crore, were formally kickstarted by HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Thursday.
Ibrahimbagh’s Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu, Puppalguda’s Bhagirathamma Cheruvu, Moosapet’s Kamuni Cheruvu and Kapra’s Kapra Cheruvu are set to be restored and rejuvenated by HYDRAA.
Commissioner Ranganath performed rituals at Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu and Kamuni Cheruvu on Thursday. Locals who attended the programmes said that the restoration would help reduce sewage-related problems and mosquito breeding, while also improving the ground water levels and the overall appearance of the surrounding areas.
Ibrahim Pedda Cheruvu, spread on 97 acres, is being restored at a cost of `29 crore, the 54-acre Bhagirathamma Cheruvu `22 crore, Kamuni Cheruvu spread on 48 acres with `21 crore and Kapra Cheruvu, spread across 112 acres, is being improved at a cost of `35 crore.
Ranganath directed contractors to remove silt from the lakes and strengthen the bunds. He said that the restoration programme aims not only to control flooding but also to increase groundwater recharge and improve the local environment. He also instructed officials to develop proper inlet and outlet systems so that floodwater can enter and exit the lakes without the surrounding areas getting inundated. He stressed that the works should be carried out without compromising on quality.
