Hyderabad: HYDRAA demolished two buildings that were almost completed and two structures which were at the foundation level, which were built in the full tank level (FTL) of Pariki Cheruvu in Qutbullahpur..
According to the Pariki Cheruvu Protection Committee, the lake originally spanned over 60 acres, but a significant portion has been encroached upon. The committee had lodged complaints with HYDRAA, prompting action against illegal constructions.
The committee members alleged that a local leader, Balakrishna, has been illegally selling government land and plots within the FTL zone. They alleged that he and his associates had been notarising land deals using Aadhaar details of both buyers and sellers.
Locals also alleged that Balakrishna had encroached more than 1,000 sq. yds of land, which was a part of a school ground. They said that he raised structures in that land too, and those constructions were also unauthorised.
HYDRAA inspected the encroachments around Pariki Cheruvu, along with officials of the revenue, irrigation and municipal departments, identified the illegal structures and demolished them.
Several buyers, who purchased land at low prices from Balakrishna, said they were unaware that the plots fell within the FTL zone. Some told HYDRAA that they paid up to Rs.15 lakh for 50 sq. yds of land, and were never informed that the properties were a part of the lake’s FTL.
HYDRAA also stated that they are investigating claims that a man named Anil Rao, through Balakrishna, has been selling government land as plots.
