HYDRAA Commissioner Inspects Retaining Wall Work at Picket Nala

Ranganath instructed officials to complete the work in a month, so that the seven colonies living near the nala are not flooded during the rain

Hyderabad: HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected construction work on a retaining wall on the Picket nala at Begumpet’s Patny Colony on Sunday, along with Secunderabad Cantonment Board CEO Madhukar Naik.

Ranganath instructed officials to complete the work in a month, so that the seven colonies living near the nala are not flooded during the rain.

On June 6, HYDRAA had razed commercial structures which were raised by encroaching on the drain. Authorities had planned to raise a retaining wall along the drain but a local resident stopped the works citing court orders.

After rain lashed the city in July, Patny Colony and Vimannagar Colony were inundated and HYDRAA’s Disaster Response Force had to rescue residents in boats.

Authorities said that they raised a temporary blockade to prevent water from entering the colonies. After securing court permissions, they were now constructing the retaining wall.
