HYDRAA Chief A.V. Ranganath Inspects Lake Restoration and Flood-Prone Points Across Serilingampally
He stressed the need to remove all the silt from the lakes and increase their capacity to hold more floodwater than before.
Hyderabad:HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath, along with Serilingampally zonal commissioner Narayan Amit Malempati inspected lake restoration and works at waterlogging points at several locations on Friday. During an inspection of work at Ibrahimbagh cheruvu in Neknampur, Bhagirathamma cheruvu and Thoutanikunta cheruvu in Nanakramguda, Ranganath directed officials to ensure that inlets and outlets were scientifically designed.
He also said sewage treatment plant (STP) works should be initiated along with the development of the lakes. He stressed the need to remove all the silt from the lakes and increase their capacity to hold more floodwater than before.
The team also inspected areas around Gachibowli, the University of Hyderabad, Biodiversity Park and Malkam Cheruvu, where DRF staff reported flooding in the past. Box drain works were reviewed along with officials from the CMC, GHMC and MMC. HYDRAA officials explained that removing silt from inlets and completing box drains at Khajaguda and Malkam Cheruvu had helped reduce the flood threat.
At the University of Hyderabad, officials inspected pipelines built to carry rainwater across the road. Ranganath said the completion of a flood channel towards Pochammakunta would prevent water from stagnating on the HCU road this year.
