HYDRAA Begins Fencing Edulakunta Lake to Reclaim 6.05 Acres
Sources alleged that a portion of the reclaimed land was linked to NVN Constructions, which had entered into an agreement with MyHome Group, and that two BRS leaders were also involved in the issue.

Hyderabad:The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has begun fencing the Edulakunta lake in Madhapur after reclaiming it from encroachment, officials said.
Sources alleged that a portion of the reclaimed land was linked to NVN Constructions, which had entered into an agreement with MyHome Group, and that two BRS leaders were also involved in the issue.
Officials said the reclaimed extent of 6.05 acres had been restored, though it currently appeared dry. They alleged that attempts were made to encroach upon the entire extent by exploiting jurisdictional overlap between Kukatpally and Serilingampally villages. Permissions were reportedly obtained from Kukatpally village during 2022-23, while construction activity was undertaken in Serilingampally limits.
According to HYDRAA, officials from irrigation, revenue and municipal departments were influenced during the process. It said superimposition of Survey of India maps on satellite imagery established the extent of encroachment.
The agency described the clearance of Edulakunta as a major operation, stating that land worth about ₹1,800 crore had been protected in Madhapur, with boundaries demarcated and fencing in progress. It also said that feeder channels connected to the lake had been restored.
Officials said that earlier, surplus water from Thammidikunta, located opposite Shilparamam, used to flow into Edulakunta through a flood canal. The canal was allegedly diverted, cutting off inflows and leaving the lake dry, which facilitated encroachment attempts.
They added that the lake’s contours and boundaries had been altered and construction activity was planned before local residents approached HYDRAA, leading to intervention.
The interconnected chain of water bodies in Madhapur — Thammidikunta, Edulakunta and Sunnam Cheruvu — is also the subject of proceedings before the National Green Tribunal.
