Hyderabad Engineering Student Named As 2026 Youth Literacy Ambassador

The appointment places Hasini among 900 Youth Ambassadors aged 16 to 25 from 101 countries, who will collaborate over the next three months on literacy initiatives at both local and global levels.

Hyderabad: Ravula Hasini Reddy, a student of ACE Engineering College from the city, has been selected as the 2026 Youth Literacy Ambassador for the region by the World Literacy Foundation. The appointment is part of the foundation's global initiative to promote literacy and encourage young people to lead community-driven efforts to improve reading outcomes.

The appointment places Hasini Reddy among 900 Youth Ambassadors aged 16 to 25 from 101 countries, who will collaborate over the next three months on literacy initiatives at both local and global levels.

As Youth Literacy Ambassador, Hasini Reddy will spearhead community outreach programmes, organise fundraising initiatives for literacy projects, and advocate for improved reading skills among children and young people. She will also work to encourage students, volunteers, and local communities to actively support literacy campaigns.

Annabelle, 23, Coordinator of the World Literacy Foundation's Youth Ambassador Program, said the initiative empowers young people to become leaders in addressing the growing challenge of illiteracy.
"Growing numbers of children and young people are struggling to read, often choosing streaming platforms over books. The greatest need is among children in low-income communities, many of whom do not own a single book," she said. She added that strong reading skills provide children with the foundation for lifelong learning, confidence, and opportunity.
According to the World Literacy Foundation, around 770 million people worldwide are unable to read a single word, while another 2 billion struggle to read a sentence. In low-income households, an estimated 72 per cent of children experience reading difficulties, highlighting the urgent need for literacy interventions.
In her new role, Hasini Reddy will receive leadership development opportunities while working to raise awareness of literacy challenges and mobilise greater community participation to improve reading outcomes.
