Hyderabad's GI Bangles Dazzle Miss World Pageants

This is one of around 300 shops in the area dedicated to traditional art.

Hyderabad:Each of the Miss World pageants who walked through Laad Bazaar on Tuesdday received a Lac bangle handcrafted by artisans of Premium Khaja, a century-old shop located beside Charminar. This is one of around 300 shops in the area dedicated to traditional art.

Six artisans from Premium Khaja worked 27 days to prepare 109 customised bangles for the pageant contestants. “Each bangle is different,” said Mohammed Anwar, a fourth-generation artisan with over five decades of experience. “They feature a photograph of the contestant with her national flag on one side and the Indian Tricolour on the other,” he explained.

They offered these bangles free of cost to the state tourism authorities for distribution, hoping this gesture would promote Hyderabad’s traditional bangle art globally, added Anwar.

This is not the first time the artisans have received international recognition. In 2017, they crafted Lac Bangles and a pearl set for Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump, during her visit to Hyderabad as a US government representative. Mohammed Zubair, another artisan from the team, said, “We were overjoyed when the contestants passed by our shop. It was amazing to see our work reach participants of a global beauty pageant.”
